Just a picture to cool us down in the heat!
Somehow we've come to year end again! Still hot and sultry with a growing water crisis in South Africa, which is not entirely due to the drought. Bad infrastructure maintenance lies at its heart. The tragedy of this is that so many jobs can be created by tackling this problem and resolving it.
We will be on "part-time" from the 23rd December until 4th January. We'll be busy cleaning out old stuff and generally preparing to hit 2016 running! Will you be doing the same? So far, our sales efforts in December have reaped fruit.
We are very grateful for the support we have received during 2015 for everyone and wish you all a safe holiday! May 2016 be generous to us all!
Just to follow up on Stephen's useful tip from last month, we have been using Irontree Cloud Backup services for well over a year (probably two or more). Recently one of our key files went corrupt. It took us two minutes to recover it. We can confidently recommend their services. If you want more information, please contact Judith.
You will recall that dotPLOT is the South African standard in Soil Profile and Borehole Log software. From now until the end of December all new first purchases of dotPLOT, and upgrades, come at a 40% discount. This does not include second and subsequent copies paid for by the same Accounts Department, which remain at 50% off the price of the first copy. Might this be a good time to buy your upgrade, first, second or third licence?
After January 2016, the 50% discount on second and subsequent copies of dotPLOT will be discontinued. All copies of dotPLOT will be at full price. To buy, or for more information, please email Rick or phone 011 802-6440.
We will be installing QuickBooks 2016 on our network during the break and upgrading our files. It seems to be faster than 2015, which is a bonus.
Both 2015 and 2016 now have optional monthly support contracts available
Get Office 365, the professional toolset without the hassle!
We'll be testing it over the break to obtain an in-depth understanding, plus looking at certification.

If you are in Joburg and find you are getting nowhere reporting water and sewer leaks, please ring 011 688 1699 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. You should then receive a reference number. If this doesn't work forward the problem to Judith, who can escalate it!
Unfortunately the Rand's slide against the US Dollar has meant a 7% price increase from 11th December. We sometimes feel depressed when we look at invoices going back a year ago and see how much cheaper things were then.
From the 1st February 2016, the only way to buy Autodesk products will be either annual or quarterly desktops subscriptions. These come in two flavours - with basic support or with advanced support. The latter gives you access to storage in the Cloud through A360.
Please note that from 1st February 2016, all maintenance subscriptions must be renewed promptly!

With Excel 2007, Microsoft introduced new file extensions for Excel, distinguishing file content in more detail. This is useful for you because you can now tell whether the file contains active content, in other words, programming code. If you get a file from elsewhere and do not expect it to contain programming, and it has a file extension indicating that it contains macros, you can now be alert and stop them from running.
The old file extensions, which continue to work, are:
The new file extensions, which only work on older editions (2003 and earlier) if you install the compatibility pack, are:
The file extension, for those who have forgotten, goes on the end of the file name, with a dot in between the two, e.g. BankRecon.xlsm --you might not see file extensions that are known to your computer, if the system is set to not show them.
Next time we will look at how you can stop the macros running, if they are suspect.
Experience: Something you don't get until just after you need it.
All the Best from the team!
